PRP uses your own body's blood to provide a way to stimulate collagen. Blood is drawn & spun in a centrifuge to be separated & used for stimulation of hair follicles for hair growth & collagen stimulation for the face & body. The platelets play a vital role in healing & contain growth factors that stimulate cell reproduction & tissue regeneration in the treated area.
PRP injections are done in three steps:
1. Apply a local anesthetic to numb the scalp.
2. Your own blood is drawn & spun in a centrifuge to separate your blood.
3. That PRP is then injected into your scalp with a syringe after a local anesthetic has been removed and your scalp has been cleaned.
Both men & women can benefit. Male balding & hair thinning is talked about extensively, but women do not often get the same benefit of widespread information. The fact is women can lose hair too. Those suffering from androgenic alopecia or other forms of alopecia. This is also known as male/female pattern baldness. It's a hereditary condition that affects around 80 million people in the United States per year. Those who have recently experienced hair loss. The more recent the hair loss occurred, the better your chances are of fixing it before it is too late for PRP injections. Those with thinning or balding hair, but not completely bald people. PRP injections are meant to thicken, strengthen, and grow hair from follicles that are still functioning, however weakly this may seem.
Shampoo & condition your hair before the procedure. This way, it is clean & free from grease & dirt particles. It provides a sterile environment on your scalp before the injections. Eat a healthy breakfast & drink at least 16 ounces of water. This way, you will not likely experience dizziness, fainting, or nausea. Remember, blood will be drawn. If having that done on an empty stomach makes you queasy, you probably should remedy that before arriving. Don't use any hair products like hairspray or gel for at least three days prior to your PRP injections. Don't smoke, drink or take any NSAIDS before hand, if at all. This can affect your platelet count & increase your risk for bleeding & bruising.
Resume normal activities. Unlike other procedures, you shouldn't experince drosiness or fatigue. Wash your hair on the normal schedule unless the injection sites are irritated or painful. Don't color your hair. The harsh chemicals will irritate the site of the injections and possibly cause complications. It also exacerbates scalp pain. Lastly, don't wear a hat or anything tight around the injections site for at least a week post procedure.
While little risk does exist with PRP injections, there is always a risk with any procedure. Some include dizziness, nausea, scalp pain, bruising, bleeding, irritation during the healing process, scar tissue at injection site, injury to blood vessels, & injury to nerves.
Results after PRP hair restoration are gradual. Initially patients will see results in two months with gradual improvement over the next 12 months. Typically 3-4 treatments a month apart is recommended for optimal results. Followed by maintenance treatments every 6-12 months. Nutrafol Fullest Hair Supplement Kit is included, if package is purchased.
